"go to you bosom: knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know." william skakespeare

So my mother's surgery happened last Thursday. She came home yesterday. The day of her surgery has got to be the worst day of my life. We made the best of it, even though we were all stressed beyond the bearable. One learns things about oneself when faced with trying situations.
My mother is doing well now. She's walking and eating more normally as each day passes. Pretty soon she'll be walking circles around the rest of us. Then we'll get a break from taking care of her. It'll take some time for her to fully recover, but she will.
As for me, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. The enormity of the situation was almost more than I could take. During the surgery and the rest of her hospital stay, I found I couldn't focus on any one thing but her.
I have found a great series of books. They're collections of travel tales from around the world. Most of the stories are a short two or three pages. Lately I've been reading travel journals. I finished "Bella Tuscany", the follow-up to "Under the Tuscan Sun". It was lovely. Following that, I read Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (I'd never read it as a kid, when most everyone read it in third grade!) Oh well. I did enjoy it. Once I'm finished with these travel journals, maybe I'll finally read that "Tale of Two Cities." I know, I was supposed to have read that some time ago too....
Anyway, life is slowly getting back to normal, so I must get back to work. Have a great day!
